Laredo Jury Awards Oil & Gas Client $16 Million

News

David Ortega recently assisted attorneys from Santoyo Wehmeyer, P.C., with the trial of a lawsuit for EOG, a Houston-based oil and gas exploration company, concerning its rights to access and develop wells on a Webb County Ranch.

The owners of the Webb County Ranch initially filed suit for breach of contract, fraudulent inducement, and other claims related to providing water for an oil terminal, as well as trespass and other requests intended to stop the development of the oil terminal.

On September 23, 2024, the trial commenced in Webb County's 111th Judicial District. On September 27, the jury returned a favorable verdict, finding that EOG did not fail to comply with its water purchase agreement and that the Webb County Ranch owners failed to comply with their obligations.

The jury awarded the defendants $14,954,784, with an additional $700,000 awarded to the defendant's legal team through the trial phase and up to $250,000 for appeals.

More information about the trial can be found here.
