John Palmer Completes 25 Adoptions in 1 Day for National Adoption Day

Naman Howell Waco family lawyer John Palmer once again celebrated National Adoption Day by helping 25 families in the Waco, McLennan County area become complete on November 16th.

Every year for National Adoption Day courts and communities throughout the United States come together to finalize thousands of adoptions of children from foster care and help raise awareness of the over 100,000 children in foster care awaiting permanent families.

For the past number of years John has taken on a mission to help as many children and families in McLennan county as he could, but it’s not always easy. The head of Waco’s family law department, Ben Selman, stated “What John is doing is a complicated process commonly known as “termination and adoption”, which is really a dark and winding set of statutes and requirements which typically serve to additionally terrorize the participants. John has found a way to make the children’s (and their parents’) journeys to their “forever homes” a bit smoother, and lot more fun.”

This year’s theme of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” with the Polar Express movie was a huge hit as Baylor University’s Sheila and Walter Umphrey Law Center was transformed into a Christmas wonderland. There was lots of food, treats, and activities for the kids, along with Santa and Mrs. Claus handing out gift baskets wrapped as large Christmas presents. Additionally, each family received a commemorative Polar Express ornament, The Polar Express book and movie, books, games, and assorted passes and gift cards from generous donors.

Not only did John, alongside many of the talented staff at the firm, complete all of the countless hours of legal work to make this happen, but he also dressed the part on the day of by donning a full elf costume complete with pointy hat and shoes. “If the practice of law is a calling, then John has heard his call” stated Ben Selman.
