Human Resources Generalist - Austin

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources, the HR Generalist is responsible for benefits and wellness administration, educating employees on policies and processes, handling onboarding/offboarding of employees, and staff and attorney engagement and development.


Education / Experience:

  • 3+ years of previous HR experience within a professional services organization
  • Previous law firm experience preferred but not required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and HRIS systems
  • Degree and/or certification in HR, communications, business, or similarly related field preferred but not required


Primary Responsibilities:

Onboarding new hires

  • Facilities the onboarding process with new hires, including but not limited to coordinating their IT set-up, scheduling orientation and training, administering new hire paperwork and benefits enrollment


Benefits administration

  • Manages all employees’ benefits, including adding/removing new/exiting employees to carrier portals, invoices, and other documents, and coordinating with the firm’s payroll department
  • Manages semi-annual open enrollment
  • Coordinates with personnel to update beneficiaries on 401(k), life, and AD&D insurance plans
  • Sends eligibility notices for the firm’s flexible spending account and 401(k) programs


Employee relations

  • Holds touch base meetings with new hires to gain feedback, relays (non-confidential) info to appropriate leadership and follows-up as needed
  • Researches and addresses employee inquires related to benefits, insurance coverage, firm policies and procedures, etc.
  • Coordinates logistics for staff engagement activities, the attorneys’ biennial retreat, office holiday parties, flu shot and wellness clinics, as well as other events and activities
  • Facilities staff recognition program and service awards


Miscellaneous administration

  • Assists with FMLA and ADAAA processes
  • Completes digital employment, income, and/or insurance verifications
  • Maintains and organizes spreadsheets, databases, and other firm resources as required
  • Provides administrative support to the Director of Human Resources with day-to-day staffing operations within firm
  • Maintains confidential information while always utilizing discretion
  • Other duties as assigned


Travel to the other offices within the firm may be required from time to time with reimbursement provided at the federal rate.
