Title: Associate
Jean (“John”) Raveney is a transactional attorney in the Austin
office of Naman Howell Smith & Lee. He advises clients on a wide range
of business/corporate matters. A large part of John’s practice focuses
on representing companies in the telecoms and credit union industries,
primarily in the role of outside general counsel, and he has experience
drafting complex technical agreements and contracts related to all areas
of business in these industries (e.g., whether as provider/vendor or supplier/customer).
John also has experience in a variety of corporate matters. In mergers
and acquisitions, he has been involved with drafting both buyer and seller
purchase agreements for deals ranging from $4-to-150 million. He has also
worked on company and organizational restructuring, drafting company/operating
agreements, assisting with company wind-ups/terminations, employment matters,
real estate/land deals in the oil & gas space, amending and reforming
trust instruments, estate planning, and corporate governance.
Prior to law school, John was interested in academia and worked in education
as a high school humanities instructor at a private prep school, and as
a college tutor and teaching assistant for ancient Greek. During this
time, he was involved with research and writing, and he participated in
several national conferences where he presented his papers.
John is a double UT Longhorn and an increasingly longtime resident of Austin,
where he lives with his wife and two sons. He holds dual citizenship with
France (from his father’s side), and so reflects this with a French
name, pronounced as: “Sean” but with a “J,” or
as the English/Texas version: “John.”
