settlement of employment claims. The article examines changes that the
Act made and specifically discusses the Act’s amendment to IRC 162,
which addresses confidential settlement agreements related to sexual harassment
or sexual abuse claims.

About the Authors:
Joe Rivera
Joe’s practice is devoted to civil litigation, with a focus on business
litigation, employment matters, and tax litigation and controversies.
Joe’s training and experience fosters his representation of clients
in these areas.
While earning his degree in accounting, Joe trained as a revenue agent
with the Internal Revenue Service. This experience gave Joe an understanding
of investigation and enforcement procedures by a government agency, which
Joe applies in representing clients in dealing with government agencies
such as the Department of Labor, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission,
and the Texas Workforce Commission. This experience is especially helpful
to Joe’s efforts on behalf of taxpayers in dealing with government
agencies. Joe has represented clients in proceedings involving the Internal
Revenue Service, Texas Comptroller’s Office, and local taxing authorities.
Kyle Knas
Kyle’s practice focuses on estate planning, probate, business law,
and guardianship. Kyle advises clients on wealth planning with a focus
on the preparation of wills, trusts, financial and medical powers of attorney,
and tax planning. This also includes advising trustees with respect to
a trustee’s duties and the administration of trusts. Kyle also helps
advise beneficiaries and administrators through the probate process, including
assisting in transferring property, handling complex probate matters,
and preparing estate and gift tax returns.
Kyle also counsels clients on a variety of business matters, ranging from
assisting in forming business entities, guiding clients through the purchase
or sale of a business, or drafting and advising in the review of contracts
for a business. Additionally, Kyle guides and advises clients on issues
surrounding guardianships, including assisting individuals apply for guardianships
and advising clients throughout the guardianship process.
