PRACTICING LAW IN MID-SIZED CITIES: THINGS TO CONSIDER

We understand the lure of the big city to many law students, in fact, many of us grew up, clerked, or worked there previously. We at Naman Howell, however, have made a conscious decision to pass up those big city attractions for what we believe to be the far greater attractions offered by more reasonably sized cities. We encourage those students who are interested in both a quality practice and a quality lifestyle, with the opportunity to take on early professional and civic responsibility, to consider the unique advantages offered by our firm. The firm has a broad regional and statewide civil practice covering all of the areas found in your typical large firm. With offices in Waco, Temple and Austin, the firm is in a position to grow with the dynamic I-35 corridor, a geographic area that continues to generate substantial law practice.

Our firm is unique for a firm originating in a town like Waco. We enjoy a sophisticated and challenging law practice, while at the same time enjoying the advantages of the somewhat smaller communities in which our offices are located. For example, lawyers in our Waco, Temple, and Austin offices are able to be on the lake within 15 minutes after they leave the office. Due to the lower price of land in the surrounding countryside, many lawyers enjoy a second home within half an hour of the city. Several groups of attorneys have joined together to purchase boats and country places. In addition to numerous other firm-wide activities, the firm purchases tickets for University of Texas and Baylor University football, basketball and baseball games.

Our firm is proud of the communities in which we practice and recognize each of us should contribute of his or her talents to the community, particularly in the area of pro bono legal services. Many attorneys are active in their respective local bar association functions. Several attorneys serve as adjunct professors at the Baylor Law School and one member, a former basketball star, continues to provide the color commentary for Baylor basketball games.

In addition to being highly respected in the community, we believe that we are highly regarded by our peers in the legal practice. Our firm has had the honor of having two of our lawyers serve as State Bar President and two lawyers serve as Texas Young Lawyers Association President. Other lawyers spent time as Supreme Court briefing attorneys, State Appellate Court briefing attorneys, Federal Appellate Court clerks, and Federal District Court clerks. We continue to seek law students with outstanding academic and personal backgrounds who are interested in enjoying a quality law practice in conjunction with a superior lifestyle.

SUMMER ASSOCIATE PROGRAM

Summer Associates participate in a program designed to provide an opportunity to work with the firm's lawyers and provide maximum exposure to all areas of practice. Summer associates participate in client conferences, trials, judicial and administrative hearings, depositions, closings and travel. A variety of social activities are planned to give each summer associate the opportunity to spend time with members of the firm in a more informal, relaxed setting.
