Intellectual Property Prosecution
Our legal system has laws in place to protect intellectual property just
as it does for physical property such as homes, land, and personal items.
Intellectual property typically refers to created works, such as a work
of literature or art, which may or may not be tangible items. The Texas
intellectual property lawyers at Naman, Howell, Smith and Lee, PLLC represents
clients in a wide variety of intellectual property cases. As with traditional
property, there are several types of intellectual property that are protected
under these federal laws.
There are three key components of intellectual property law:
Patents, Trademarks & Copyrights
Companies or individuals who invent a specific product should acquire a
patent to protect their rights. A patent grants rights to protect the
product from replication for a limited period of time. Most companies
already have a trademark in place. A trademark is a word, phrase, design,
or symbol that clearly identifies a company or individual from others
in the same industry. Infringing on another person or company's trademark
sullies the brands of both companies and laws are strictly enforced.
Copyright is one of the most common terms used to describe something of
which individuals or companies want to claim ownership. The coverage of
copyright items is broad and includes many works such as paintings, photos,
books, and poems. As long as an individual or company rightfully created
the content, it remains theirs. This type of law protects that work, particularly
the right to or not to reproduce it.
